Dimitri Cools - contemporary artist
Cultivation starts with the making of fire.
Culture starts with the writing of words.
Degeneration with the redefining of those words. Dimitri Cools
Cools developed a fascination for writing; both in terms of communication as in terms of content. His starting point is that writing - to be taken literally as (hand-)writing - is the archetype of graphic art.
Someone’s handwriting betrays his personality. In addition, an expert will recognize a person's artistry (and sense of composition and drawing) based upon his handwriting. In fact, the author cannot hide his or her secrets just by signing with his/her signature. Think of the use of typed text or text collages when kidnappers want to remain anonymous.
History is the overall theme of Dimitri Cools' oeuvre. History as we all learned at school in fact does not exist. Historiography overwrites the truth, and sprinkles it with an abundant sauce of lies and distortions. Facts and words are being hidden and carelessly thrown away by the politically correct way of thinking. Are we laughing with the Victorian era now? According to Cools, we will also do the same within the nearby future with the current times.
